Summing it up...
- At the end of my two-week visit to Israel, as I reflect upon his experiences I realize that I originally came to Israel to establish academic collaborations with specific researchers and companies whereas I came back home with a whole lot more; after an amazing journey through Israel I have taken home several memories, opinions, thoughts and lessons as well as a few potentially fruitful new research collaborations. I have always been intrigued in regard to how Israel mobilizes technology from the academic world to commercial application and during this trip my interactions with Israeli entrepreneurs, academicians, social workers and politicians has provided me a bird's eye view in this regard. In fact, while I was still on the trip, I had already begun receiving data (i.e. signs of collaborative beginnings) from some of the colleagues I met, which by itself stands testimony to the enthusiasm and enterprising nature of Israel's most precious resource - its people. I was also pleasantly surprised that in addition to it being to an academic visit offering tremendous learning and collaborative opportunities, I had an invaluable chance to learn about the formation as well as development of Israel as a country and came to appreciate the confluence of cultures that reside in The Holy Land. Further, being in Israel for two intense weeks helped me better appreciate the socio-economic, political climate and the struggles of the Jewish people, which has been the subject of two blog posts on my experiences during my travels. The first post is about our moving visit to an inspiring school of social work and the second is about visiting the Holocaust Museum in Jerusalem.”
